Giant Sainsbury's planned for Herne Bay's Altira Business Park
A GIANT new Sainsbury's could be built on Herne Bay's Altira Business Park, developers Terrace Hill have announced.
The company says planning permission for the 95,000-square-foot supermarket and petrol station is likely to be submitted this year.
Altira Business Park boss Mike Dolan, from Kitewood, said he was unaware of the plans but was "not surprised" as Terrace Hill has options on two areas of the park.
He told the Times the likely spot was next the DSA driving test centre just off the Thanet Way.
Mr Dolan said: "I know Sainsbury's have been interested in the park but I wasn't aware something was this far along.
"Terrace Hill has options on two parcels of land in the business park."
City council spokesman Rob Davies said it would be "premature" to comment on the plans and their possible effect on the town centre redevelopment before planning permission was formally submitted.
The news was hidden in a six-monthly report from the development firm.
Despite repeated calls to Terrace Hill, the company has not responded to requests for a comment.
