Folkestone's jubilee weekend celebrations all ready to go
RESIDENTS are all set for a weekend they "-will never forget", as the final arrangements for the Jubilee airshow and festival are put in place.
A range of iconic aircraft, from Hurricanes to the Red Arrows, will soar above The Leas on Saturday, June 2, as part of what organisers believe is a weekend of events different from any held in the town before.
Evention Events has been working for over a year on the arrangements but partner Katie Shields believes the end result will be well worth the effort.
She said: "We and so many other people have given our time to make this happen and it's fantastic that it's finally come together.

"We hope it'll be a weekend when people can forget what's going on and even now, with times so tough, really enjoy themselves. If we see smiles on faces, we'll know we've done our job."
On the Saturday, The Leas will bristle with activities, displays and stalls, manned by community groups, and there will be live music on the bandstand. Vintage vehicles will be on display in the town centre and Lower Sandgate Road will boast a fairground, simulators and more stalls.
For Sunday's Jubilee by the Sea, the harbour area will be taken over by buskers, street performers and entertainers, with a beach party on Sunny Sands.
Ms Shields said: "I think people have great memories of the Shepway Airshows, how much fun they were and how it was always a brilliant atmosphere and although this one's a bit different, we hope it'll set a precedent.
"Almost all the stalls on The Leas are community groups or charities. But this is very much a community event, in a way the others weren't. The Scouts are doing the litter-picking, for example, and the Guides are making things to give away – we hope everyone will benefit, in one way or another. So hopefully, people will want to keep this going in the future, which can only happen if we get sponsorship.
"We think we're offering things that are really different, that haven't been offered before, like the beach party on Sunny Sands, for example, and the DJs giving their time free to play there. We hope we're going to give Folkestone a weekend it will never forget. Just pray it doesn't rain."

“People of Folkestone, do not miss out on this historic weekend. On a personal note, I will be one of the Jubilee by the Sea buskers on Sunday, singing Alan Morissette's Jagged Little Pill album in its entirety along with a selection of songs by the 1970s progressive rock band Henry Cow which I consider to be one of the most under-rated acts of all time. Enjoy!”
