Folkestone grandmother criticises Leas Cliff Hall for all-night 'boom boom boom rave music'
A GRANDMOTHER who was kept awake for seven hours because of "boom boom boom rave music" has criticised management at the Leas Cliff Hall for allowing the event to go on all night.
Susan Bowman, 64, had gone to bed at about 10.15pm on Saturday, January 28, looking forward to a full night's sleep as she suffers from multiple sclerosis and needs rest.
But, just 45 minutes later, she was wide awake.
She did not know it at the time but she was about to spend the next seven hours being forced to listen to music not even ear plugs could keep out.
Mrs Bowman cares for her husband Robert, who suffers from Parkinson's disease.
She said: "The noise was absolutely horrendous, I was desperately trying to keep it out.
"At first, I thought it was a car parked outside my home but I soon realised it was from the Leas Cliff Hall.
"How could the Leas Cliff Hall management allow this rave session, call it what you will, to go on all night?
"Do they have no regard for their elderly neighbours?
"I have MS and if I lose sleep I'm very unwell the next day – and it's all thanks to these plebs."
The music Mrs Bowman unwittingly listened to was Hospitality, a show featuring several drum and bass acts.
The Hospitality website said of the show: "High Contrast will be headlining, perhaps treating us to some gems from his forthcoming album. Hospitality veteran Cyantific will be treating us to one of his jam-packed sets alongside the superb sounds of S.P.Y, BBK's Brookes Brothers, Logistics b2b Nu:Tone, plus newcomers Fred V & Grafix and Breakologists."
Mrs Bowman, a grandmother of four, said: "It got especially bad at about 3.40am when some idiot left a door open but it soon went back to its previous level.
"They finally left at about 6am and boy did we know it.
"There was shouting, swearing, singing and, to cap it off, a trail of rubbish."
Stephen Levine, general manager at LCH, said: "Sound levels were regularly monitored throughout the event on Saturday, which was a very successful night.
"We apologise for any inconvenience and will review our procedures."
One reveller, who asked not to be named, said: "It was a mental night."

“The Leas Cliff Hall has always been and (hopefully) will always be an entertainment venue, I have been to several events there over the years since the roller-disco days! they have been loud, there has been 'trouble' outside - in general, I should imagine like any other venue in any town. There are also pubs and clubs nearby and this area can get busy and noisy at night.... so, personally, I will not be looking to move into a flat in that area.
It's just common sense.... you wouldn't move next to a farm and moan about all the moo's, baa's and cock-a-doodle-doo's would you?”

“PS shows the type of human being this 'lady' is, insulting people by calling them idiots and plebs! Who does she think she is?”

“what a very sad lady, I don't suppose she was ever young! She needs to move to Hythe, I so pity her neighbours, they probably only have to break wind and she'd phone the council! And I speak as as a 41 year old mother of two, who unfortunately doesn't suffer with MS or Parkinsons, I'm just someone who loves to see people enjoying themselves every now and then.”
