CAROLS filled the air at a Christmas community event in Seal on Friday.

Villagers crowded the streets following the festive fete at Seal Primary School in Zambra Way to see their children perform a nativity play outside the Five Bells pub.

Parents cheered their little ones on as the group overcame stage fright after popping into Santa's Grotto.

After performing several carols with help from watching residents, the youngsters paraded down Church Road clad in their headdresses and halos, to St Peter and St Paul Church for another carol session and Christmas stalls.

The Reverend Anne Le Bas said it was an "extremely successful" evening.

She added: "We had to battle the roadworks to get to the procession on time, but last year we had to fight the snow and ice so this was definitely better.

"It was a really lovely atmosphere and a brilliant turn-out, I was surprised but very pleased.

"The event was organised by the Know Your Neighbours group, as we really wanted to link the school and the church.

"The children did really well and sang their hearts out, and so many people helped to get it all together – there were hundreds of people there.

"It was great to get everybody together for a singalong. I thoroughly enjoyed myself."

The organisers thanked everybody in the village for their help setting up the festivities.
