SURREY: Two teams of county council workers have been attempting to break the record for the longest five-a-side football match.

The footballers played for 27 hours and 15 minutes to raise £1,000 for the NSPCC and Princess Alice Hospice, in Esher and are now waiting for confirmation they have beaten the previous record of 25 hours held by Leeds University.

The match ended 536 to 362, with Tom Quy finishing top scorer with 130 goals. However, despite his efforts he finished on the losing side.
