Event helps to kick the habit
THOSE wanting to quit smoking can find advice at a New Year, New You event in Sherwood.
People planning to become fitter and healthier this year are urged to visit the TN2 Community Centre in Sherwood tomorrow (Saturday) between noon and 3pm.
At the winter blues busting event visitors can enjoy Indian head massage or hand massage, have a go on a smoothie bike where the rider has to cycle to blend fruit, or make jewellery or even have their faces painted.
The event is organised by Tunbridge Wells Borough Council with West Kent PCT, Kent Adult Education, the Kent High Weald Project and West Kent College.
There will also be free 20-minute health checks from a nurse, which must be booked in advance and advice on a wide range of youth and adult health issues, including how to stop smoking. Telephone Helen Wolstenholme on 01892 554230.
Deputy leader at Tunbridge Wells Borough Council Catherine Mayhew said: "January can be a dreary, cold month and we wanted to organise an event for local people to enjoy. The activities are all free and there will be lots of people on hand to offer advice and information about all kinds of things which affect health and well being.
"Anyone who has made a new year's resolution to quit smoking will be able to get some help to stick to it. But the event is also intended to be fun and we hope that families will come and try some activities out."
