Drop the gun and leave foxes alone
I WRITE in response to the anonymous Borough Green man who has threatened to shoot any foxes seen on his estate (Chronicle, July 1).
The fox attack on the babies in East London was a first.
It would not have made such headline news if it wasn't.
But all the excessive tabloid coverage has done, by whipping up such anti-fox hysteria among such ignorant urbanites, is to strengthen David Cameron's proposal to scrap the Hunting Act and make the hunting of not just foxes, but deer, hares, mink and, no doubt sooner or later, otters as well, legal again in gratitude for the help given to the Tories' election campaign by the Countryside Alliance.
Contrary to the myth, foxes don't spend their time killing chickens and lambs and attacking babies. Enlightened farmers see them as a friend by taking recognised farm pests.
So my advice to Mr Anonymous is to forget reaching for his gun, and simply leave his back door shut if he really is so scared of such a small creature.
