SECOND and third placed Hythe and Holmesdale could only battle out a 1-1 draw at Reachfields on Saturday that leaves leaders VCD Athletic needing just one win from their remaining two games to take the title and with it promotion to Ryman One.

Holmesdale took the lead from a corner following their first meaningful attack of the game but Hythe levelled inside six minutes when Lee Winfield swivelled in the box and fired past Danny Harwood.

But it never got any better than that for eight side, despite an injury to Harwood that gave Hythe virtually an hour to try to beat makeshift goalkeeper Thompson.

Now a win against either Deal on Wednesday or Norton Sports next weekend will give north Kent outfit VCD the title.
