Dover marks Remembrance Sunday
A BRIGHT November sun warmed the hundreds of people gathered outside Dover's town council offices to pay their respects at the Remembrance Sunday service today.
Tots in pushchairs, Cubs, Scouts, Brownies and Girl Guides joined war veterans and representatives of the armed services at the gathering, which had an address led by Reverand David Ridley.
In talking to the crowd Rev Ridley honoured not only those who fell in the World Wars but also the men and women who have given their lives in more recent conflicts.

Special mention was made of Lieutenant Edward Drummond-Baxter and Lance Corporal Siddhanta Tunwar, both from the 1st Battalion The Royal Gurkha Rifles, who were killed in Helmand Province on October 30.
Reading a report of the first ever Remembrance service in 1919 Rev Ridley said: "I wonder whether on that first Remembrance Day whether they anticipated people still gathering nearly 100 years later to pay their respects to the fallen."
Among those laying wreaths at the town war memorial was MP Charlie Elphicke, DDC chairman Sue Nicholas and town mayor Anne Smith.
Others included members of Kent Police, Kent fire service, DHB and service associations such as the Royal British Legion and the Royal Engineers Association.
Dover War Memorial Project, the Dover Society, Riverside Centre and members of the carnival court also laid wreaths.
Following the service a parade, led by354 Dover ATC and Flt Lieut Jim Eldridge, made its way back to St Mary's Church where the Dover mayor took the salute.
