Six-year-old terrier Toby was being taken for a walk by Marlene Bayley and her daughter Sharon Taylor, when he was attacked and killed by a one of a pair of Weimaraners.
Following council and police investigations, magistrates ordered the owner of the Weimaraner, Keith New, of Stock Hill, to keep pet dog Shadow on a lead and muzzled at all times while in a public place.
Executive councillor for environment Cllr Colin Smith said: "Although incidents like this are infrequent, as the vast majority of dog owners do behave responsibly, there had been a growing trend of attacks like this that have to be cracked down on.
"This was a seriously upsetting incident and there have been similar cases recently. We need to remind all dog owners of their duty to control their animals.
"It's simply not right or fair that other people's loved pets are being killed in this way."
The order was made under section 2 of the Dog Act 1871, which gives courts the power to make owners keep pets muzzled and on leads in public places. In extreme cases, the court can order that the dog be destroyed.
The council's contractor, Ward Security, provide a mobile force of officers with trained security dogs to patrol the borough's parks and open spaces, keeping them clean and safe. They can be contacted on 0845 8476180.

“Im havin the same problem where i live in 7oaks. My dog got attack by a german shephard over greatness park back in oct. The owner of the dog has been told the dog should be on a lead but the owner still lets it run freely. I have reported it to the dog warden and local police, but still havnt heard back from them. Somethink must be done before a dog is killed or even a young child or adualt. My dog isnt the 1st and it wont be the last.”

“"Dog owner cited"... where are we? The US of A?
And of what purpose are Ward Contractors? I mean it is nice to know they walk their dogs in the parks and open spaces but I can't see them being let loose on the local thuggery, can you?”
