Dismal Lords back in the old routine
LORDSWOOD 1 GREENWICH BOROUGH 3
By Darrell Harman
LORDSWOOD'S improved form didn't amount to much in the end. They'd done a lot better in their last three games, but were rarely in it as they went down 3-1 at the hands of Greenwich Borough on Saturday.
A defeat which ensures they're becoming more and more separated from the group above the bottom two in the Bulmers Cider Kent Premier League.
As it happens the home side made a decent start and were perhaps a bit unlucky when Ray Broad had a goalbound effort deflected on to a post.
Two minutes later and Greenwich were ahead courtesy of Richard Monan, who volleyed over keeper Rowan Arnott from around p0enalty spot distance.
Mark Sisson doubled the advantage after Luke Mortimer failed to control a Ryan Watts cross and it was more or less signed, sealed and delivered.
In a rare attack Alec Osborne nearly got a goal back in the 13th minute when he volleyed just wide from 20 yards, but by now it was almost all about the visitors, who went close through Kevin Seffah and Louis Bajeux before the half-hour mark.
Alec Sharpe was thwarted by a splendid save and Greenwich keeper Danny Firkins, who also tipped over a 25-yard Darren Bridges' free kick, but while they made their three substitutions at the halfway mark, disaster struck five minutes into the second period when Arnott completely missed along ball through and Sisson was allowed to shoot into an empty net.
Greenwich were in total control and could have scored more, but their finishing lacked conviction and the scoreline was made a bit flattering from their perspective two minutes from time when Mortimer headed in a free-kick at the back post.
Too little and quite a lot too late, that.
