Police investigating a New Year's Day assault in Ashford are appealing for the public's help to trace a couple they would like to speak to.

A 21-year-old man was knocked out by a man he met as he walked home along Beaver Road in the early hours of New Year's Day after a night out.

The attacker is described as a white man of stocky build, aged 20 to 25-years-old, and about 5ft 9in tall. He was wearing a black puffa style jacket, blue jeans and white trainers and a woolly hat or flat cap. He was with a white woman who was aged 19 to 20-years-old, about 5ft tall and of small build with long dark hair and a long dark puffa style jacket. She was also wearing large hoop earrings.

The victim was left unconscious for a couple of minutes and witnesses saw the couple continue to walk along Beaver Road and then into Godfrey Walk.
