JOE DENLY did his future England chances no harm when he hit 47 against Australia in the fifth One-Day International at Trent Bridge on Tuesday.

Denly hit 45 before being caught off the bowling of Mitchell Johnson and was England's second top scorer behind Eoin Morgan (55) as they posted a score of 299.

That, however, was not enough as Australia chased down the total with 10 balls and four wickets remaining, helped by some poor England fielding and a brilliant knock of 126 from Ricky Ponting.

The next game with Australia is on Thursday, again at Trent Bridge.
