NEWCOMER Jack Fenton recorded two tries on his debut as the Dragons made up for the disappointment of having last week’s game called off.

The starting line-up comprised players who had all featured last season, the bench was filled with five new boys in James Colclough, Tom Clare, Callum Simmons, Tyler Kent and Jack Fenton.

Skipper Ewan Rushworth led the team through their pre-match drills and warm-ups and Stand-Off Connor Nayler organising the attacking moves.

Having won the toss, the Dragons kicked off and stayed in the Stags half, completing set after set and containing their opponents.

Forwards Ben Masalovich, Harry Bell and Charlie Roberts produced hit after hit and special mention should be made of George Carlin, who put in the first big, crunching tackle to lay down a marker for the rest game.

First blood went to Liam Jessop, who scored impressively in the corner and others came from Charlie Faux, Fenton, Andrew Woodrow and two for Tom Josling. Connor O’Grady certainly converted four of the tries and the second half contained more of the same.

Fenton, Josling and O’Grady touched down, the latter took his conversion count to seven and Saturday’s home game with Staines can’t come quickly enough.

ANOTHER day, another emphatic league victory. The Bulls came to the Garrison Stadium confident, but the Dragons were still on a high from their defeat of Elmbridge Eagles, the previous week, and they tore into the oppos from the outset.

Full back Rob Josling popped up on the right to post the first score and Fergus Stewart struck again soon after.

The Dragons defence went into overdrive and their heavy pressure forced errors.

A massive hit from skipper Adam Shears set the standard and his team responded. A high kick was fumbled over the line and giant forward Max Fenton bagged the easiest try of his life.

The Dragons had complete control and were able to dictate the play. The skills levels were outstanding and the game was played at a great pace for this early in the season.

Luke Murray scampered down the right hand side and scored in the corner, while Nick Hardinges -back from injury - dominated the back row battle with Jack Johnston, Henry Butler and Shears and chalked up a score for himself.

Great lead-up work and leg drive from Fenton set a platform for Tom Coyd to score a trademark try which Ashley Banfield goaled well from touch early in the second period and Hardinges bagged another, followed by Joe Fish who showed blistering pace on the wing to get on the scoresheet. Tries from Banfield and the outstanding Hugo Parnell wrapped it up, leaving Mark Roughsedge, the U16 coach who has recently joined from Warrington, delighted.

“We are making good progress with each week that goes by,” he said. “I was pleased with the communication and skill level as well as the spirit in the team.”

Next up are Staines Titans at The Garrison on Saturday.
