DEAL Town Council have agreed to send designs containing the Cinque Ports coat of arms, with the town name above and the motto below, for their approval following the recent fall-out.

Almost a fortnight ago, Deal town and its football club was told it could no longer use the traditional badge by the College of Arms, who said the edict was part of the 1972 Local Government Act which assigned it to the entire borough of Deal, including Walmer.

Town councillors and residents were united in their anger, arguing that changing it would cost thousands.

After finding out the specific costs of a brand new design, councillors last night voted unanimously to opt for the cheaper option of taking on the Cinque Ports arms, personalised with the town name and motto.
