Darren Stevens on twenty20 qualification, the 'catch' that wasn't and a day out at the Open
QUALIFYING for the twenty20 quarter-finals is huge – it's absolutely massive for us.
To do so well in such a big competition is incredible for the boys. The games against Sussex and Essex were two of our biggest of the year so to perform how we did was an amazing effort.

We've not had a lot going for us this season and our hopes had been to try and qualify for finals day all along. There's still one match to go so the meeting with my old club Leicestershire is massive.
People said 'who would you rather have in the next round?' and they were saying Leicestershire. But it doesn't work like that. They're a good side who've won it before and it's twenty20; anyone can win on any given day.
It was good to play a big part in both games personally but others haven't taken it so well.
I've had so many people Facebooking me calling me a cheat after the Essex game - it's been stupid!
The situation was this: I didn't know if Scott Styris had caught it as Ravi (Bopara) had run in the way after he bowled it. I said to the umpire "did he catch it?" and the umpire said he didn't know. I asked the Essex boys if he had and they said yes and I started walking off, then the umpires called me back.
The longer I was out there waiting for a decision the more confident I was that I would stay in. It's a good job I asked the question as I went on to make a few which was good, even if I started off pretty slowly.
Keysy came in and said 140-150 would be a good score and when I went in the ball was reversing around corners. God knows how they got it to do that! I played out a wicket maiden and didn't get off the mark for seven balls but that's how the game is played – you have to give yourself a chance and that's what I did.
With the ball we were a bit short at times and a bit too full at others. The game plan was to bowl good lengths as there was not much bounce and I stuck to that and it paid off.
Wahab came back at the end and did the business too. When he fires he's unplayable. There's not a chance I'll face up to him in the nets!
I spent Friday morning at the Open in Sandwich; I love my golf. I was hoping to go down there with Jonesey on Saturday too but his Mrs was expecting a baby so I had to go off to play the Netherlands instead which was a bit of a pain!
I've played the course a few times and I got into the members area which was good fun. I'm delighted Darren Clarke won it, especially as he's part of the same agency as I am (International Sports Management). Hopefully I'll be able to meet him and a have chat as he's a top bloke. Rory McIlroy's on their books too so they're doing alright. It'd be good to add a twenty20 cup winner this year to their list!
