A SILVER-TONGUED teenager has taken to the air waves in a bid to become a radio DJ.

At just 13, Jack Sayer is the youngest person to take control of the electric decks at Academy FM.

The Year 10 pupil is one of 20 Thanet school children trained by the community radio station based in the Marlowe Academy.

He hosts the Your Shout with Jack Sayer request slot on Monday nights between 6pm and 8pm.

Jack said: "The first time it was a little bit scary, but exciting too.

"I have always liked listening to the radio.

"It let's people get the chance to know you."

Jack, who is also a budding stage actor, wants to become a professional radio presenter when he leaves school.

He said: "I have got more confidence now.

"They have taught me basically everything I need to get on the radio."

Station manager Pete Willson said the youngster could be the next Chris Moyles.

He said: "We're very proud of Jack.

"A year ago he expressed an interest and the first thing that came across was that Jack speaks very well – he's got a very professional voice.

"He's definitely someone who's taken to it like a duck takes to water."

He also praised the youngster's incredible music knowledge.

The Marlowe Academy pupil has learnt how to use the station's mixing deck and computerised play-out system, which handles all the audio and tracks.

Academy FM has given hundreds of pupils from across Thanet a chance to learn more about the medium.

Mr Willson said: "We have got lots of different students who show a keen interest and enthusiasm for local radio."
