THE Lindley Players are pulling out all the stops for a double celebration this year.

Not only is 2012 the 30th anniversary of the opening of the Playhouse Theatre in Whitstable but it also marks the 200th anniversary of the birth of Charles Dickens.

Spokesman Peter Bressington said: "We are staging a double celebration by performing Dickens's classic David Copperfield from April 20."

The play will be the group's entry in the Kent Drama Festival.

The first rehearsal of the mammoth cast was held last Tuesday, the actual anniversary of Dickens' birth.

They celebrated with cup cakes made by Caroline Jordan, each with the names of a Dickens character and a cast member.
