MEDWAY Crusaders Under-14s maintained their unbeaten record by way of two victories from last weekend's double header.

The first game was against Spelthorne Atoms and coach Matt Fenton said: "The rearranged trip to Ashford, Middlesex, was on paper our easiest double header of the season but a spirited Atoms performance meant the first game was by no means a stroll in the park."

Coach Fenton went on to say "We were ahead most of the game but never stretched it to more than 11 points which meant Spelthorne worked tirelessly to cause an upset.

"Although nowhere near our best, highlights included England U15 development player and this game's MVP Liam Carpenter scoring 27 points and Max Carpenter leading the team with 10 assists. The game finished 54-43 to Crusaders."

The second game was against London United and Fenton this time gave some of the fringe players a chance to shine.

Under-13s trio Edan Backhouse, James Lloyd and Mitchell Rae all produced strong performances and five others also found the basket in a 64-12 success.

The game's MVP was Tom Miller, who finished with 15 points, 2 blocks and 4 rebounds.

Said Fenton: "With one game remaining against fellow title contenders Bucks Hornets it is crucial we remain focused and carry our winning momentum into the play-offs. I expect Bucks to come out firing to avenge their defeat two weeks ago, but with a few more players available and home advantage I expect the Hornets to provide our toughest challenge yet.

"At this point, a special mention must go to the Spelthorne Atoms coach Lloyd Littlewood who has continued to motivate his players and provide national league basketball opportunities despite losing all their games. They have fulfilled all their fixtures and played their games in good spirits."
