THOUSANDS went to Hollywould but was it enough to save troubled web station Kent TV?

Since the county council-funded station launched the controversial teen drama series Hollywould three months ago it has been viewed more than 97,000 times.

But will that be enough to convince county councillors to save the station at a crisis meeting on Monday, February 1? They are under pressure to pull the plug as the council prepares to make savage cuts elsewhere.

The £20,000 10-part drama used a team of 25. It was written by Whitstable scriptwriter Julie Wassmer to tackle young people's issues including internet dating, sexual health, spiking drinks and personal safety.

It links to films featuring interviews with NHS professionals which have been viewed almost 27,000 times.

The whole Hollywould project, including episodes, films and biographies and interviews received a total of 130,803 hits.

Alan Marsh, Cabinet Member for Public Health and Innovation, said: "These early viewing figures are fantastic news.

"The Hollywould… project is an innovative approach to communicating with Kent's young adults about really important issues.

"If it stops just one person needing treatment then it has paid for itself."

It also scored a first by allowing broadband viewers to choose the plot.

It featured first-year university student Holly, played by Helen Renny, and was shot around Canterbury and at the Maidstone Studios..

In numbers:

KENT TV was launched by Kent County Council in 2007 and so far received more than 2.5 million visits.

It is operated independently by Sir Bob Geldof's media company Ten Alps.

There are more than 2,400 short films on the website.

Hollywould's "carousel" films were viewed - 26,951.

Hollywould's biographies, interviews and films were viewed - 5,948.

Hollywould's total project was viewed - 130,803.

“Didnt it cost 35k to film and thats without the £1million plus to mr Geldof .

Over a £1 per viewer is not Good Value for money for us taxpayers when the Beeb and the commercial media do it for nothing and better.
Mindless waist of money and if you watch it is utter rubbish my teenage kids laughed out loud when they went on to see it!!”
