Sevenoaks Town: 2

Holmesdale: 1

SEVENOAKS Town boss Simon Jones hailed his in-form strikers after watching them fire his side to a scarcely deserved victory on Saturday.

Billy Shinners had given Town the lead against the run of play, before former star man Tony Atkins levelled for Holmesdale with 12 minutes left. However, Town weren't finished and Creasey's speculative effort from 35 yards squirmed off the hands of visiting keeper Chris Arnold and into the net – with seconds remaining.

"Joe and Bill have been really, really good," Jones said. "Bill has been up front with Alfred Keroma, but he is injured, so for the last two or three games Joe has moved up from midfield and has been a revelation. The pair of them are a real threat. That was Billy's 10th league goal this season – not bad considering we've only played 11 games and he was probably sub in three or four of them.

"That's a very good strike rate and long may it continue. He's effective and certainly knows where the goal is."

There was little else Jones could cheer about in a match played in atrocious conditions on Saturday.

In fact, he admitted Sevenoaks were exceptionally fortunate to get anything at all from the game.

"To be honest I think they were all out shopping thinking the game was going to be called off," Jones said. "Against Norton we were magnificent. We played brilliant football. This week we looked like a bunch of strangers. I'm happy to accept the win – we'll just say the performance was down to the conditions."

Battling against the wind in the first half, Town had two or three good chances which they spurned, although at the other end Sean Funnell was at his superb best to deny Lordswood on more than one occasion.

The visitors seemed to handle the conditions better than Town, so it was a surprise to see Shinners put the hosts ahead just before the hour mark.

Atkins then responded, before Creasey's speculative injury time strike sealed the win, which pushes Town up to the heady heights of fifth in the Kent Premier League.

"That's three wins on the spin, which is really, really positive," Jones said. "However, I'm not going to contemplate the league table until the new year."

Jones is, however, pleased with how things are shaping up at Greatness Park.

He now feels he has a solid back four in place – and everyone knows all great teams are built from the back.

"We have been a little bit more frugal at the back and when we get a chance are putting it in the net.

"We are cutting out mistakes and are competing at a proper level in this league. Hopefully we can put together a nice little run."

On Saturday they face Corninthian, at home, at 3pm.

"If we play like we did last Saturday we've no chance of taking the three points," Jones said. "I don't know a great deal about them – I do know they've been competing well, but are losing by the odd goal.

"We've not been brilliant at home, so let's get a result and go from there."

Sevenoaks Town: Sean Funnell, Toby Webb, Danny Twin, Charlie Burgess, Michael Cook, Joe Minter (Daniel Akpoveta 70mins), Danny Ward, Jamie Johnson (Kevin Lareya 79 mins), Chris Walker (Euon Brown 70mins), Billy Shinners, Joe Creasey. Subs not used: Mickey Mullane, Aaron Scanlon
