COMMUTERS faced delays and cancellations this morning after a fire near London Bridge caused trains to be diverted.

The blaze in a disused railway arch broke out at 3.45am close to the line.

At its height, 50 firefighters were at the scene.

Operator Southeastern cancelled services in and out of London Bridge, Charing Cross and Cannon Street and passengers were instead diverted to London Victoria.

Tickets were also valid on high speed services into St Pancras.

“Commuters, always moaning, the fire was not south easterns fault, they were ordered to close the line by the fire service because of the fear of exploding gas cylinders. You can not expect to run all Charing Cross and Cannon Street trains into Victoria, which is already full up. But many did go in there causing huge congestion.
Emma, get real, how can you muster up enough buses to shift thousands of commuters into central London. and how long do you think it would take if they could? And whats fare increases got to do with a lineside fire? Chill out girl, and look at the big picture.”

“Since the Introduction of the High Speed Rail Link Southeastern appear to be more interested in making that efficient delays on the mainline and metro services seem to be increasing even if its a couple of minutes here and there which statistically don't count as a delay
When it snowed I ended up getting the Train Home from Charring Cross instead of Cannon Street when I got on the Train Bound for Tunbridge Wells they then cancelled it as they didn't have a driver but someone drove it in there!!!

    Strip them of there franchise!!”

“Couldn't agree more with Emma from Dartford!!!

This morning was chaos. The lack of information, additional services or even staff on the stations was totally woeful.

And doesn't look like it going to be any better this evening... so good luck to all those attempting it.”

“Although the staff at Dartford station did their best this morning, in very difficult circumstances it is not true that trains were diverted to Victoria. The train I normally use 07:36 to Victoria was also cancelled. The train was in the sidings (you could see it from the platform and the staff told us it was there) waiting to be allocated a platform, but staff then had to make an announcement that any train in the sidings would not be in service.
With no timetable and no information it was terrible, for all involved ¿ staff and commuters alike.
With trains only going as far as Lewisham, the suggested route in ¿ the DLR was also beyond capacity. My experience was of two sardine packed DLR trains at Woolwich with people standing 3 deep on the platform for the next train.
I have looked at the Southeastern website they have no updated information to let me know what will happen when I have to make the journey in reverse tonight.
How does a company like Southeastern justify such large fare increases, when they obviously do not have any emergency procedures that can be put into place at times like this morning, or when it snows?
To a humble commuter, it would seem that replacement bus services could have been deployed ¿ they use them when engineering works take place and the trains that should have been going to Victoria could have still been run (maybe making them slightly longer than the normal 5 carriage train) easing congestion on other lines DLR and the Underground.
But who am I to complain, after all I am just the humble commuter who will have to pay what ever fare they decide and put up with a deteriorating service.”
