Community centre plan is in at last
THE wait is finally over in Edenbridge with the submission of the full planning application for the town's community centre.
Kent County Council plans to construct a new community centre at the site of the former Eden Valley School on Four Elms Road, as well as 40 new houses and 49 parking spaces.
An application was submitted to Sevenoaks District Council in 2007, but has now been re-submitted with amendments.
One of the proposed changes is that the community centre should be located at the junction between the B2026 and B2027 to make it visible as a landmark building, rather than being hidden at the back of the site, as the previous application proposed.
This would mean concerns about traffic going through a thoroughfare between the new houses would no longer be an issue, as the community centre would be at the front of the site rather than at the heart of where residents live.
Other amendments have also been proposed.
Edenbridge Town Council clerk Christine Lane said they were pleased the application had finally come in and urged residents to have their say ahead of the meeting on September 6.
"We're delighted to see progress on this project as it has been ongoing for many years," she said.
The full application is available for viewing at the town council offices at Doggetts Barn on the High Street.
