Cocaine found in Maston shipment

​A LARGE stash of cocaine worth £120,000 has been discovered hidden in yams at Manston Airport.

UK Border Agency officers searched the consignment and found white powder in one of four boxes of yams and it tested positively for cocaine.

No arrests have been made but enquiries by UK Border Agency investigators are continuing.

Ray Payne, Assistant Director for the UK Border Agency, said: “UK Border Agency officers work tirelessly 24 hours a day, 365 days a year to detect and prevent drugs from being smuggled into the UK. We are determined to prevent this terrible trade which can have such a destructive impact on the lives of so many.

“Anyone with information about activity they suspect may be linked to drug smuggling should call Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.”

The yams were part of a consignment of produce that arrived on a flight from Accra, Ghana on 23 February.
