AN ALUMNUS of a school in Tonbridge is to return to the town next month to talk about her experiences as a pioneering mountain climber.

Rebecca Stephens, a former pupil at Tonbridge Grammar School for Girls, was the first British woman to scale Everest and has climbed the tallest peaks on each continent.

On November 14, she will be back at the Deakin Leas school for a special evening, any profits from which will go to Tonbridge Grammar's Gift for Learning campaign.

"I found what I loved to do," she said of her mountaineering exploits, "and that, plus a little help from my friends the Sherpas, was enough to get me up there."
