Classical concert at Vale Royal Methodist Church, Tunbridge Wells
M usicians Jenny Maslin, Lianna Jeffery and Anna Wynne are better known on the local music scene as part of Paul Dunton & Crew. But with their classical training the trio have decided to move away from the popular crossover style and put on an evening of classical music in Tunbridge Wells.
The programme for the night will feature a variety of composers and styles including pieces by Fauré, Britten and Rubbra, as well some English folk.

Go! spoke to Jenny about the concert.
How did you come to play together?
"I play violin in Paul Dunton's Crew and I do his backing vocals. Anna plays violin and she has played her harp at Local & Live. And Lianna plays flute. But voice is my first instrument and harp is Lianna's first instrument.
"My sister used to play with Paul and when she went off to university he was looking for someone to take her place – so I jumped in."
What prompted the decision to play a classical concert?
"We all taught last year at Walthamstow Hall in Sevenoaks and so we were talking about doing something classical together. We do recitals separately but we haven't done anything all together and we thought it would be really nice."
So is this what you do for a living?
"I would call myself a teacher but I also perform. Anna and Lianna do a lot more performing; they do cruises and they do weddings and afternoon teas up in London. They do quite a lot and I'm just getting going really.
"Originally I was a secondary school language teacher but I took the jump into music teaching because it's a lot more fun. Children generally seem to enjoy music lessons more than languages – especially German!"
Would you say you are part of that "cool classical" movement that seems to be fronted by attractive young women like the Opera Babes and Katherine Jenkins?
"I suppose so, and it is going on in Paul's Crew as well. I suppose it's all helping classical music even if it's through a popular medium."
What's next for the three of you?
"The week after this concert we're recording a live album for Paul at The Ship Theatre in Sevenoaks. That should be really big because we're playing with six violins, three cellos and a flute. I'm looking forward to that one as well. We've got the two different things going on; the classical and the crossover. It's really fun.
"We're hoping to do more recitals just the three of us. Maybe we'll make it annual thing. We just hope it attracts a big audience."
