Two Canterbury Universities score top well for toilets - on gay sex website
TWO of the city's universities have scored top marks for their toilets – on a gay sex website.
Cruising Gays has awarded five stars to the basement loos at the University of Kent and the public conveniences at Canterbury Christ Church University in North Holmes Road.
Correspondents on the gay sex site even added lewd and lurid comments plus tips on how to pick up men.
The worldwide site lists a top 20 of toilets – known as "cottages" by gay men – in the Canterbury district with tips about what type of people use them. Toilets in Canterbury High Street and Dane John Gardens both get three stars.
One correspondent says of the High Street loos behind the Beaney Institute: "I think a warden has been hired to keep an eye on things now."
Dane John Gardens are labelled "hot and horny."
The site has renamed a lay-by on the Thanet Way at Yorkletts as a "gay-by" because it is "perfect" and gives it two stars.
Toilets at Canterbury's Kingsmead coach park score one star.
University of Kent spokesman Gary Hughes said: "We are not aware of any activity at this location. The whole area has recently been refurbished so things have changed. I have no idea how old the posting is but I would guess it is old."
No one from Canterbury Christ Church University was available to comment.
City council spokesman Steve James said: "Having sex in a public toilet is illegal, irrespective of sexuality. We would refer all matters to the police although I know of no incidents."
