CHATHAM Town continued their rich vein of form during pre-season with an impressive 3-1 victory over League Two side Dagenham and Redbridge at the Maidstone Road ground on Tuesday night.

The home side went into this match with four straight wins under their belt, and were certainly not intimidated by the team who narrowly missed out on a play-off position last season.

In fact, they had the better of a goalless first half creating some good chances, the best of which falling to Steve Hafner in the 36th minute, but his shot came back off the bar and cleared to safety.

However, it was Hafner who gave Chatham the lead shortly after the break after he connected brilliantly to a long cross and his strike gave the keeper absolutely no chance.

Hafner was involved once again for the second goal, this time turning provider for Brendon Cass whose powerful header gave him his first goal in a Chatham shirt since January 2006.

Tony Martin did pull one back for the visitors with 15 minutes to go, and this set up a tense finish for the hosts, but victory was secured in the 85th minute when Justin Ascheri rounded off a fine evening when he neatly tucked the ball away from just outside the six yard box.

The game finished 3-1, and Chatham will be hoping to record their sixth straight 'friendly' win when they entertain Ryman Premier League side Margate on Saturday, kick off is at 3pm
