IT'S Twenty20 finals day on Saturday and the first time for years that Kent's players have been able to sit back and watch it on television.

Normally they're in the centre of all the spills and thrills but this time have failed to get into the last four for the big Rose Bowl showdown.

It gives the players a 10-day break before resuming action next Wednesday against Lancashire in the LV County Championship at the St Lawrence.

The ground, though, is in use this week for under-19 internationals between England and Sri Lanka today and tomorrow.

Kent go into the Lancashire match on the back of a good spell at Canterbury, victory over Essex followed by a draw in the match with Somerset.

That match was a huge anti-climax, Somerset declining to set a target on the fourth day with captain Marcus Trescothick running the gauntlet of criticism from Kent supporters for his stubborness.

All 10 fit Kent players, including wicket-keeper Geraint Jones, had a bowl in an attempt to tempt the visitors, the game ending in farce with Joe Denly standing in behind the stumps as Jones bowled.

Some consolation was that James Tredwell ended with his season's best figures of 5-95.

On Sunday, Kent scorched to victory over Leicestershire with 13 overs in hand.

Leciester collapsed from 41-0 after four overs to 145 all out, Malinga Bandara taking his best figures for Kent, 5-35, and occasional off-spinner Martin van Jaarsveld ending with 3-23.

He then hit an unbeaten 56 as Kent raced to victory with ease.
