LIFE through a lens looks good for catering boss Steve Weaver – he's just snapped up a dream prize.

Steve, co-director of Chives the Caterers, has won the Guardian/South African Tourism "Photographer Wanted" competition.

Steve, 53, from Chartham, underwent rigorous interviewing at the Guardian offices, where judges were looking for passion and creativity to complement his entry, a shot taken in South Africa.

Steve is now enjoying his prize, two weeks in South Africa where he will enjoy a master class with photographer Alf Kumalo, followed by a nine-day photographic assignment on an adventure trip.

His best shots from the trip will be displayed at the National Geographic shop in Regent Street, with another spread in the Observer magazine.

Steve then intends to bring his work to exhibitions in Canterbury.

He said: "All commissions are welcome, except weddings. I was delighted to win."

Chives operate cafés at Waterstones in Canterbury and the Horsebridge Centre, Whitstable, and outside catering operation Catering Contracts.
