Callous car driver in Dover 'stopped to laugh' at hit-and-run boy

A HIT-AND-RUN driver in Dover laughed at and mocked the child he knocked to the ground before speeding off.

Travis Bushell, 12, was walking home from school when he was whacked by a blue Audi in Folkestone Road, Dover, last week.

The Astor College pupil is now suffering constant pain with his knee in a splint, after his leg was struck by the car bonnet.

His angry mum Nicola, of St David's Avenue, Aycliffe, said: "As Travis was crossing the road a car came out of nowhere and hit him. It stopped and the driver asked: 'Did that hurt, mate?'

Miss Bushell has now called for the man, believed to be in his 30s, to come forward after Travis said he spotted two young girls in the back of the Audi.

The mother-of-four said: "If he's got children of his own in the car I wouldn't it to happen to anyone else."

Travis missed two days at school after suffering a suspected fracture in his knee, which has swollen up. His mother said painkillers are doing little to soothe the discomfort.

But Travis has been told he must wait until March 5 to see a specialist at the William Harvey Hospital in Ashford.

Miss Bushell now wants witnesses to the hit and run to get in touch with police, as she is yet to hear from officers since the incident.

The unemployed 32-year-old said the Audi had a personalised plate and Travis thinks the first two digits were A4.

The shaken youngster told his mum two eastern Europeans on the opposite side of the road asked if he was okay, before he was taken to the Harvey by ambulance.

Miss Bushell said: "Travis was hurt and he didn't catch their names, but they offered to help him while others walked by."

A spokeswoman from Kent Police confirmed officers are investigating the incident, which occurred at about 6.30pm on Wednesday, February 6, near Dover Priory station. She said a car had "clipped" the 12-year-old and left the scene of the accident.

Witnesses are asked to call police on 101.
