SEVENOAKS travelled to Eastbourne full of confidence and desire to keep up their good run of late.

Three straight wins has seen the Oaks pull away from the relegation battle, however, it was the opposition who started the better and Sevenoaks found themselves a try behind with just a few minutes on the clock.

Fortunately this was a wake up call and the visitors responded well. George Bantin remembered his kicking boots this week and got Sevenoaks back into the game with a couple of penalties.

Their first try was not too far away. It was Bantin who made a break down the blind side before getting the ball to Thierry Walker on the half way line, and he out ran the defence to score his first try for the first team.

Captain Tim Golds said: "The forwards had a good battle on their hands and were up against a strong pack. The boys had to work hard up front and Mark Ridout (man-of-the- match) once again showed that he is a force to be reckoned with in the front row, even at the tender age of 39.

"We are also taking pride in our defence and in the last few weeks we've worked harder at our rucking, clearing out and talking. Kenny Pihema at blindside had an awesome game and physically battered the opposition."

At half time the scores were close at 13-10 but Oaks' superiority showed after the break.

The second half started off with more purpose and Sevenoaks were determined to put the game to bed early. A good team attack put them deep into the opposition half before a good ball from fly half Adam Suttil put French Flyer, Alteirac in for his first try. Alteirac didn't have to wait long for his second when Al Barber chipped a clever cross field kick and the try hungry forward retrieved the ball and touched down. Eastbourne did continue to pile on the pressure up front and scored a good forward's try, which was converted.

But the rest of the second half belonged to Sevenoaks and it was an entertaining game of rugby for the spectators as the Oaks backs ran riot. At times it looked likes sevens and although Oaks won't always be able to play like this it was great to see the boys running with confidence and backing themselves.

James Garcia, who had run brilliantly all afternoon, was the deserved scorer of the next try.

Following a well executed move, Garcia powered through the gap like Megatron on a mission, and as the two defenders came to cut him off his pace and strength crashed him over the line.

Al Barber finished off the scoring with a fantastic solo try to make the final score 40-17.

With a couple of weeks off Oaks begin preparing for the eagerly anticipated match of the season when top of the league Old Ethamians visit the paddock on April 4.

“I can't believe the mighty Oaks have won three on the bounce. I expect they will now go and pull one over the top-of-the-table team! This bodes well for next season and what should be a cracking local derby with TJs - have they secured promotion yet?Is there going to be a new league set up next year? Questions, questions. The rugby public need answers.”
