PLAYING their fifth match in 10 days, Sittingbourne went out of the Championship Manager Cup when they lost 2-1 at home to Ryman Premier side Wealdstone in last night’s quarter-final.

The visitors took an early lead but the Brickies fought back and equalised just before half time when Hicham Akhazzan scored his 23rd goal of the season and his fifth in five games.

Wealdstone were awarded a penalty early in the second half but Sittingbourne keeper Deren Ibrahim, in his first game for nearly three weeks because of injury, pulled off a magnificent save.

At the other end, Akhazzan hit the post when Sittingbourne were awarded a penalty and Wealdstone almost immediately scored the 77th minute winner.

Wealdstone go through to meet Croydon Athletic for a place in the final next week.

This Saturday, Sittingbourne are back in action at home to Met Police.
