SITTINGBOURNE beat Kent rivals Folkestone Invicta for the second time this season, as goals in each half by Hicham Akhazzan (penalty) and Tom Bradbrook gave them a 2-0 win.

Having already knocked Ryman South leaders Invicta out of the FA Cup, this win strengthened the Brickies’ challenge for a play-off place.

The game was marred by an injury to Sittingbourne’s teenager goalkeeper Deren Ibrahim, who was carried off and taken to hospital for X-rays on his shin.

Folkestone striker Simon Austin was given a straight red card for the challenge on him, but although Sittingbourne had to put a midfielder, Billy Manners, in goal in Ibrahim’s place, Folkestone never tested him throughout the second half.

Apart from having to bring ‘veteran’ Steve Williams back in goal for Tuesday’s night trip to play-off rivals Godalming, Sittingbourne will also be without striker Bradbrook because of work commitments.
