Boy critical after accident in High Brooms
A five-year old boy is in a critical condition after a road accident in High Brooms.
The boy was in collision with a Ford Fusion on Powdermill Lane at around 3.25pm on Wednesday.
He was rushed to Kent and Sussex hospital with head injuries and later transferred to a hospital in London.
He is currently in a stable but critical condition.
Local people have reacted with horror at the latest accident, which comes just months after two children were knocked down on nearby Yew Tree Lane.
One woman, who did not want to be identified, said: "There are too many cars, going too fast and being too careless.
"I hope that boy is okay but maybe it will make people think more about their driving."

“I wish this little boy a speedy recovery. It was very sad to hear.
I must say that I think too many people park to pick up their kids. What happened to walking? However, as a parent myself, I would NEVER let my own child go near the road and always maintain holding their hand. I can't blame the child, he was only 5 - he no road awareness at this age. Why were his parents not holding onto him? People are too quick to trust their kids so young.
I just hope the little lad will be alright.”

“How sad. I did see the boy on the ground just before the ambulance arrived.
It was good to see a traffic warden there at 3:30 today - parents shoudn't park outside the school, it's dangerous. Walking a few minutes has never hurt anyone, parking on single yellow lines outside a school has. Think carefully, parents.”

“This was a very sad accident to which my 6 year old daughter was a witness, unfortunately there is no where else for the parents to park as the school will not allow parking on the premises, yes i agree that the railings should go further down, and that something needs to be done to stop this happening again, why i ask myself is there a lolypop person round the corner of the school but not ouside the school, yes there is a zebra crossing but not all drivers stop at that, maybe having a person with some sort of authority by the school would stop any further incidents from happening.
I hope the little boy will be ok.
I know they had a talk with the pupils yesterday about road safety so hopefully pupils will now think twice about running into roads, i know it has made my daughter think twice about running off, now she knows what can happen.”

“It is common sense that motorists should be extra careful by parked cars. But if cars are illegally there, more has to be done. Why are these parents being so inconsiderate?”

“Don't blame the driver on this occasion The boy ran out from behind a parked car,
What makes this accident hard to stomach, it was only a matter of time before it happened. Parents park their cars up the pavement and on the yellow lines on a daily basis, making it impossible to see a child let alone one that runs out into the road until it is too late, These people are putting our children's lives at risk every time they do this,
So please parents, stop parking there and make the pavements visible to drivers and surely the highways agency has a responsibility to keep our children safe by extending the railings all along the road so children can't run out.”
