BIGAMIST: John Kerwin married two women The Argus
He married Tunbridge Wells woman Jean Rodgers in 1974, divorcing her four years later.
He then married Lorraine Braithwaite in Tunbridge Wells in 1984, but this didn't stop him also marrying Sonia at Hove in 1995.
The truth was discovered by lawyers after the couple split and started their own divorce proceedings.
Kerwin admitted bigamy at Brighton Magistrates' Court where he was given a seven-week prison sentence suspended for 18 months.
Devastated Sonia Kerwin told how she realised the 15-year marriage had been a lie.
She said: "When I first met John it was like living a dream, I thought I was the luckiest person alive."
"During our relationship I asked several times if he was still married.
"Sometimes he would deny and at others he would just ignore the question."
She is now getting counselling, but still declared her love for her wayward husband.
She said: "I love John with all my heart and he will never be far from my mind."
Kerwin claimed he believed the divorce had gone through but never received papers confirming it because he was moving around the country at the time.
