Bay through to final as Town's treble dream is ended
ALTHOUGH their Kent League title challenge now looks to be over, Herne Bay still have silverware in their sights after last night's 1-1 League Cup semi-final second leg draw away to Faversham Town.
It was enough to give Bay a 4-2 aggregate victory and they can now look forward to a final appearance against either Beckenham Town or Sevenoaks Town, who play the second leg of their semi-final next Tuesday with the score currently 2-2.
In a game in which both defences were kept busy, Bay made the breakthrough after 13 minutes when Michael Jenner was put through to slot under Town keeper Rob French.
That made up for Faversham's away goal in the first leg and meant the Lillywhites needed to score three times on the night just to force extra-time.
It never looked likely against an away defence that, while riding its luck at times, stood firm until the 52nd minute when the home side were awarded a penalty for Jamie Maxted's push on Damien Abel.
Bay keeper Dan Eason was sent the wrong way by Lee Shearer, but it was to turn out Faversham's only goal.
It means an end to Town's dreams of a league and cup treble, but keeps Bay's season very much alive.
Both sides return to Kent League action this weekend.
Faversham, who lead second placed Bay by 13 points, are at home to Fisher while Bay are away to Corinthian.
