"At their head offices in Richmond half the record company came into the board room and I was suddenly playing guitar to all these executives.

"It was nerve-wracking but they all thought it was great and rushed us to London to sign.

"This is the sort of break every band dreams of."

Mr Blackburn said: "Sets have a great musical future. Not only is Dominic a great writer – lyrics and melody-wise – he is young and has more room to grow."

Other members of the band include drummer Harry Pearce, bassist Tim Worthington, of Oak Lane, 21-year-old pianist Leila Grove from Tunbridge Wells and violinist Jessica Watson, 20.

“Good luck to them. Just proves that you don't have to go through the X Factor to get signed up!”
