Art Deco's charm and character
I T MUST be the sea air in Ramsgate that keeps the owners of a delightful art deco property looking so young.
Ron Clatworthy, 81, and his wife Anne, 72, have lived in St Mildred's Avenue for the past nine years and will be sorry to leave their very special property.
Built in the 1930s, the house retains many of its original features including an art deco fireplace, curved ceilings and curved windows.
Ron and Anne fell in love with the property on a visit to Ramsgate and moved from Limehouse in London to sample the delights of living by the seaside. Unfortunately, Ron was not very well last year and their children feel it would be better if they moved back to a flat in London as their son lives in the capital.

While many art deco features remain – such as the downstairs shower room, pelmets, hall, staircase and landing – the house now has a thoroughly modern kitchen, bathroom and conservatory.
Ron said: "We have really enjoyed living in our home during the past ten years. We have made several improvements since living here, including a kitchen extension, which makes a great difference to our day to day lives. There is now more space for cooking with handy integrated appliances. We spend a lot of time in the conservatory and the garden is also a true delight with lovely sea views. We've also created a decked patio to make the most of sunny afternoons."
Anne added: "To compliment the art deco design, we have bought some art deco lamps and ornaments."
