A 79-year-old man has been questioned by police about the suspicious death of an elderly woman.

Officers were called to the home of Winifred Thomas in Deanwood Drive, Rainham, at 10.30am on Sunday (May 9) where they found her body. Police have described her death as "suspicious."

The 79-year-old was arrested and taken to Medway police station for questioning. He was still in custody at noon today.

A post mortem examination is due to take place this afternoon and an inquest opened and adjourned later in the week.
