Age no barrier for churchyard tidy
VOLUNTEERS aged between three and 69 pooled their brushes and garden gloves for a team clean-up of Shoreham churchyard on Saturday (March 6).
Helpers came from Shoreham, Tonbridge and Tunbridge Wells to participate in the event, part of an Action Earth campaign run by the volunteering organisation CSV Environment.
Led by Shoreham youth club members and their families, the Desmonds, Hitchcocks, Birkins and Tullets, the team planted 30 bulbs and five trees, sawed branches into logs and beautified 10 neglected graves.
Molehills were flattened by the youngest volunteers, Hadley, six, and Amy Tullet, three.
Other helpers provided four different soups for lunch in the church.
At the end of the day certificates were presented by Jasper Dale, chairman of the Friends of Shoreham Churchyard, followed by melted marshmallows around the bonfire.
