A2 reopened after car transporter accident at Gravesend
THE London-bound carriageway of the A2 at Gravesend was fully reopened this morning.
The section between Pepper Hill and Ebbsfleet was partially reopened last night after a car transporter overturned spilling its cargo six hours earlier that day.
But three lanes of the A2 remained closed last night for several hours while the transporter was removed.
Other vehicles also had to be recovered from the hard shoulder because they had ran out of fuel and their batteries had gone flat.
Police gave out blankets to stranded motorists and offered any other help that was needed.
The accident happened before 3pm yesterday when it is believed the transporter collided into a crash barrier before overturning its cargo on both carriageways of the A2.
A transporter driver had serious but not life threatening injuries and was taken to King's College Hospital in London.
A motorist whose car was hit when by one of the cars from the transporter also had minor injuries.
