A HUGE theme park to rival destinations such as Disneyland Paris could be built on land in North Kent by the River Thames.

Developers London Resort Company Holdings have revealed an ambitious vision for the site on the Swanscombe Peninsula, near Dartford, which would see the £2bn entertainment resort rise from wasteland close to Ebbsfleet International station.

It is understood the project – supported by both Dartford and Gravesham Borough Councils – could create up to 27,000 much-needed jobs in the area.

Tony Sefton, project leader for LRCH, said: "Our vision is to create a world class entertainment destination, the first of its kind in the UK.

"We are at the start of a long journey, but have been encouraged by the support and buy-in we have had to date."

The resort – backed by Hollywood studio Paramount Pictures – could feature attractions including an indoor water park, roller coasters, hotels, cinemas, restaurants and venues for live music and shows.

By building on land close to the high speed rail line, the park would be just a short train journey from central London and well-connected to cities such as Paris and Brussels by Eurostar.

Developers say they hope to open the site by 2018, but it is likely to meet opposition from environmentalists because of potential damage to wildlife in the area.

A similar development to the one planned in Kent is due to open in Spain in 2015. The video below shows what guests can expect from the Paramount park in Murcia:

“Disneyland Paris is dire; overpriced, poor food, long queues for terribly brief rides (around a minute) and Studios Park is just as bad with very poor, unimaginative rides with only the slightest link to a film. Legoland Windsor is much better on every level; value for money, good rides lasting longer - worth queueing for, and better quality and choice of food. Legoland is the real competion for any new resort park opening in UK or even in Europe.”
